Airtel announced yet another smartphone under its ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ initiative partnering with Celkon this time. This will be the second smartphone in this series followed by the first one from Karbonn. This smartphone named Smart 4G from Celkon is priced effectively at Rs. 1,349.
To avail this offer, one has to buy this smartphone at Rs. 2,849 from Airtel. Then, the customer should buy recharges worth Rs. 169 for 36 months (3 years) or they could purchase recharges worth Rs. 3,000 for first 18 months and another Rs. 3,000 worth of recharges in next 18 months. After the first 18 months, the customer will receive a cashback of Rs. 500 and after the next 18 months, the customer will get another cashback of Rs. 1500. Thus, bringing down the price of the smartphone from Rs. 2,849 to Rs. 1,349. After those 3 years, the customers can use the smartphone which is not the case with the Jio Phone. But, they have to buy recharges worth Rs. 153 at least per month and also use the phone regularly, else the phone will be asked to be returned.
As for specifications are concerned, Karbonn Smart 4G sports a 4 inch WVGA display and is powered by a 1.3 GHz Quad Core processor coupled with 1 GB of RAM . It has 8 GB of internal storage which can be further expanded upto 32 GB via microSD card. It has a 3.2 MP primary camera and a 2 MP secondary camera. Finally, the phone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and is backed by a 1,500 mAh battery.
This will be a better choice than the phone offered by Karbonn, atleast on paper due to better cameras. Even, Jio is planning to launch an Android smartphone as reports say that the company have stopped manufacturing Jio Phones and are in talks with Google. Till then, Airtel is playing well in telecom battle started by Jio.
