News coming Via Korea Times that its next flagship smartphone, lightly dubbed Galaxy S III, will be equipped with an internally-built quad-core processor, likely the Exynos 4412. This processor will be built using a 32 nm process, as opposed to current Exynos CPUs which use a 45 nm process. That will allow the new processor to give better performance results alongside better battery life. The post says:
“Samsung has a stronger intent to lower its dependence on Qualcomm and our technicians believe that we have made significant progress in producing logic-based chips for high-end devices, combined logic and memory chips for graphic controllers and core communication chips for Internet-enabled consumer devices,’’
The all-in-one CPU comes as part of Samsung’s attempt to distance itself from external component supplies and increase the company’s self reliance. Sammy is particularly eager to reduce their dependency on Qualcomm for cellular radios and modems. There have been many, many, many leaks of the Galaxy S III in recent months, and the real question everyone wants answered is when the device is coming out.
