The “surprise” set for 10th May is not the Xiaomi’s new SoC, instead the Xiaomi Redmi S2 itself. It’s the device which was churning in the rumor mill for quite a while, and had shown its head multiple times on TENAA before. Anyway, through its official weibo account, the Chinese vendor have now confirmed that the Redmi S2 will be officially unwrapped on 10th May in China.
The new teaser posted on weibo, features a Chinese actor holding the Redmi S2 flaunting its backside. As you can see, the device’s backside has got a lot more similarity to the previously launched Redmi Note 5 Pro and Mi 6X. The vertically alligned dual-camera is positioned exactly on the same location where it was placed on the above two devices. Nevertheless, the U-shaped antenna lines at top and bottom-end is something that makes it look different.
Courtesy to the previous TENAA visit of the Redmi S2, following specs are revealed: The device will run latest MiUI 9.5 based on Android 8.1 on-board. It features a 5.99-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixel), of course with the 18:9 aspect ratio. Powered with an octa-core processor, which we think is the Xiaomi’s favourite Snapdragon 625, the device will come with 2/16GB, 3/32GB and 4/64GB RAM variants. Facility for expanding the storage upto 256GB via microSD card slot is also up on this budget device.
Pricing and comprehensive specifications of the Redmi S2 should be revealed once it goes official on 10th May. Though the device will be initially launched in China, it is expected to be launched in other market as well later. Such as India, where Xiaomi has established a strong brand-image with its Redmi models.
