Instagram now allows users to share stories in Direct messages

Instagram has now added the ability to share your Stories in Direct messages with friends and family. The update is rolling out to the v 11.0 of the mobile app on both iOS and Android. You can expect it to appear in the next few weeks.

When the update hits, users will start seeing a Direct icon on the bottom right corner of their screen to easily share a story. The story will be sent privately and since it disappears after 24 hours, it won’t be viewable after that. This new feature is also a privacy issue as a private story can also now be shared to random people. Especially if your account is not set to private. Thankfully, the Direct sharing feature can be disabled from the settings.

Meanwhile, Facebook has recently been testing a feature that will enable users to share Instagram Stories directly to the Facebook app. This will mix the content of both platforms. The Stories feature is also now available to the web version of Instagram. However, the ability to post Stories via the mobile web version should be available in the coming months.
