Xiaomi officially announced the Global Stable version of the MIUI 9 at an event in India, earlier this month. Following that they also launched a new selfie centric smartphone series, i.e. Redmi Y series at the same event. MIUI 9 is currently rolling out to first phase and some second phase devices. But, today Xiaomi took to their forum to announce that MIUI 9 will be the last update to six of their popular old devices.
These six popular smartphones include Mi 2/2S, Mi 4i, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime and the original Mi Note. The above mentioned smartphones will also not receive any closed beta and public beta from Xiaomi following November 17. The last MIUI Global Beta received by these devices was version 7.11.16 .
According to the forum post, these devices will receive the MIUI 9 Global stable via OTA starting December to January next year. And for those who have flashed the Beta version will be able to flash the Global stable version which will be provided by Xiaomi in near future.
The statement provided by MIUI team for the reason of update suspension is as below:
“To ensure the best performance of MIUI, we have to make a tough decision of suspending the update of 6 devices after a long-time discussion and evaluation about the release time of devices, active users, hardware performance, etc.”
