According to new research Smartphones now account for almost half (49.7pc) of mobile phone ownership in the US since February 2012. Last year in february, the number of smartphone users was only at 36%. Essentially, almost 70% of all new cell phone wireless plan subscribers opted smartphones as their device of choice.
Almost half of all smartphones, or 48%, are powered by Google’s Android operating system, with Apple’s iPhone representing 32% of the market and Research in Motion’s BlackBerry platform capturing an 11.6% share. And if we look at the last three months alone, Apple’s share has grown to 43%. BlackBerry is a distant third commanding 12% of the US market.
