Samsung’s last year’s flagship Galaxy S6 was the first Samsung smartphone to come with an “Edge” variant. The edge variant of the smartphone featured a display that went over one edge all the way to the back cover to the screen. The Edge variant received great response and since then, we have seen other flagships like the Galaxy Note 7 and the Galaxy S7 come with their Edge variants as well.
This could be the reason why Samsung has hinted that they could be doing away with the flat screen variants of the Galaxy S series and make the curved display or Edge variants the identity of the S series.
This is what Samsung’s mobile chief Dong-jin Koh said in a recent media interview:
“Samsung has considered that it would make the edge display as the identity of the Galaxy S smartphone lineup if the company can provide consumers differentiated user experience through software and user-friendly functions (for the curved screen).”
