Sony Xperia 1 launches with CinemaWide 21:9 display and Snapdragon 855 SoC

Sony’s mobile division hasn’t been a cash-cow for the company for the past few years. Due to the immense competition in the smartphone sector, the manufacturer which is known for producing best-in-class camera sensors has been struggling to obtain the right momentum. However, with the unleashing of a new promising flagship, Xperia 1 at MWC 2019 eve, Sony look forths to stabilize its declining market share.

The Sony Xperia 1 literally stands out from the crowd with its unique 21:9 aspect ratio display. It’s first of a kind ever on a smartphone making it a tall smartphone in overall. Since most of the films are shot in 21:9 ratio, the Xperia 1 would give you an immersive experience while watching movies with no black bars anywhere on the display. With that in mind, Sony markets its new smartphone display innovation as CinemaWide display.

The Xperia 1 is a flagship device to compete with its alike such as Galaxy S10, LG G8, Nokia 9 and other flagships which debut at MWC 2019. So, under-the-hood sits the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform coupled with 6GB of RAM. The USP is its ultra-tall 6.5-inch 4K res OLED panel. The device is bezel-less if the large bezel at the top doesn’t exist (pun-intended).

Quite obvious, Sony Xperia 1 shines in the photography department as well. The device has a triple rear camera set up at the back. It comprises of a 12MP primary Exmor RS for mobile sensor with an f/1.6, 78-degree lens as well as OIS photo and hybrid OIS/ EIS video stabilisation support. The secondary is a 12MP sensor with an f/2.4, 135-degree wide-angle lens. While the third one is a 12MP sensor with an f/2.4, 45-degree lens having OIS/EIS support. For selfies, an 8MP sensor sits at the top-bezel having f/2.0 aperture.

Powering the device is a 3,330 mAh battery with Stamina and Adaptive Charging. And, comes with the latest Android Pie 9.0 out-of-the-box. It’s expected to hit the U.S. in late spring with colour options Black and Purple, while other regions may get Gray and White. Unfortunately, there is no word regarding the exact pricing of the device but presumes to start around at EUR 799 (roughly Rs. 74,200).
