Spotify’s CEO Daniel Ek, confirmed that Spotify up 50% from 20 million paid in June of last year, just prior to the launch of Apple Music. Spotify also is has another 70 million free ad supported users. The company hit 10 million subscribers in May 2014.

Coming onto the competition that Spotify is facing then there’s Apple Music and Tidal. Over the past few months the competition is increasing but hasn’t harmed Spotify’s user retention.

Spotify will need to keep up this momentum if it wants to stay ahead of the pack and particularly Apple Music that’s owned by one of the biggest companies on the planet, and that company also happens to make the most popular smartphone on the planet.
