Xiaomi is again all set to dominate the Indian market by launching two more wallet-friendly devices. Today, the Chinese firm announced two new Redmi branded devices dubbed as Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite in India. Though, both the devices just differ only by a single word ‘Lite’ in naming, their internal hardwares are unsimilar in plenty of ways.
In fact, the Redmi Y1 is an Indian counterpart of the China exclusive Redmi Note5A Prime which was launched just recently. Similarly, the Y1 Lite is the Indian variant of Redmi Note 5A which was launched along with the Note 5A Prime in Chinese Market. Xiaomi claims that the new Y1 Redmi’s are specially designed for Indian youths and their needs. Such as big-screen for watching videos and improved front-cam for brilliant selfies.
Both of the Y1 ships with Android Nougat 7.0 skinned by latest MiUI 9 on-board. Thus, the latest MIUI 9 is debuting in India with the Y1’s. As a disadvantage, they have a plastic built back body.
Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Specs and Features
Let’s start with the bigger Y1’s specifications. The dual-SIM supported Xiaomi Redmi Y1 has a 5.5-inch HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass. It is powered by Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 Mobile Platform and 3GB of RAM. The smartphone flaunts a 13-megapixel camera with PDAF and dual-LED flash.
There’s something special to say about the Front-cam since it’s the MSP of the device. The Redmi Y1 houses a 16MP front camera. Which comes with an LED selfie-light, that helps in low light conditions. For beautifying the selfies captured using the device, Xiaomi has added Beautify 3.0 feature on it.

Taking the Redmi Y1 Lite to consideration. The phone sports a 5.5-inch HD screen, and at its heart lies a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor. The Lite version of Y1 has a dedicated microSD card slot and supports storage expansion up to 128GB. The resolution of the rear camera is 13MP with LED flash and PDAF, whereas the front camera is of 5MP. A battery of 3080mAh fuels the device.

Price And Availability
The Redmi Y1 Lite is rated at Rs. 8,999 for 3/32GB. The upgraded Y1 with 4GB/64GB storage is priced at Rs. 10,999. At the same time, the Redmi Y1 Lite has got only one version with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage at a price tag of Rs. 6,999.
As far as the availability is considered, both handsets will be available on Amazon India, and for the first time will go on sale via Amazon and Mi.com on November 8. Soon after the first sale, the handsets will also be available in various offline stores.
