The next generation mobile network technology preliminarily standardised as 5G-NR is due to see the light of the day possibly in 2019 beginning. Earlier, Qualcomm had announced its first 5G compatible Snapdragon X50 Modem capable of achieving mouth-watering 5Gbps data transfer speed. Similarly, Samsung is also said to have demonstrated its version of Exynos 5G modem somewhere in a closed venue at CES 2018. Joining the party, the Taiwanese SoC designer – MediaTek is now up with its new Helio M70 5G modem.
MediaTek has officially announced its new 5G-NR capable Helio M70 modem to get integrated on the upcoming Helio SoC’s. The modem is expected to acheive a theoretical download speed equal to the that of Qualcomm’s, i.e 5Gb data per second.
For instance, MediaTek’s development in the area of 5G is much welcoming, as it’s expected to power most of the budget-centric devices due for the next year. Unlike to that of Samsung and Qualcomm modems that will initially power only few precious flagships. Apparently the company is looking forward to set a stronghold in the 5G market. For that to achieve, its planning to increase the shipments during the period 2020-2022 to keep up with the competition.
That said, as there is no stop for the advancement in semiconductor and communication industry not so near future. It’s consumers who are benefiting a lot due to the resulting competition in the market. Well, let us wait and see what all new possibilities does the upcoming generation of mobile technology bring to the table.
