Today, MediaTek has announced Dimensity 720 as their new and most affordable 5G-enabled chipset. It is the first 700 series SoC by the Taiwanese brand which is committed to bring 5G capabilities to mid-range smartphones. The processor is built on 7nm process and comes equipped with an octa-core CPU that includes 2X Cortex-A76 and and 6X Cortex-A55 along with Mali-G57-MC3 GPU. It features LPDDR4X RAM (up to 12 GB) and UFS 2.2 storage capability.

The all-new chipset attributes include fast-refresh 90Hz FHD+ displays, HDR10+ content support, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, 64MP single cameras, 20MP+16MP dual camеras, advanced APU for machine learning, and 4K video recording. According to MediaTek, the chipset uses MediaTek 5G UltraSave technology suite to reduce power consumption. The chipmaker’s 5G UltraSave technology suite includes:
- MediaTek 5G UltraSave Network Environment Detection
- MediaTek 5G UltraSave OTA Content Awareness
- Dynamic BWP
- C-DRX (Connected Mode DRX)
MediaTek stated that the first Dimensity 720-powered smartphones will arrive in the coming months. Dimensity 720 seem all-set to bring the 5G revolution to sub mid-tier devices priced below $250 since MediaTek 820 currently powers a variety of $250 devices.
