With the likes of HTC and Huawei announcing Android 8.0 Oreo for some of their devices this year, we see another player that might take the first prize for Android 8.0 Oreo this year. Reportedly, OnePlus has started pushing Oreo builds to the OnePlus 3 in the closed beta program. Not only that, Even the OnePlus 3T/5 will get it soon, the company says. The more relevant announcement today is that a public beta may be seen as early as September 30.
A few important points to note here. It is a bit surprising to see the OnePlus 3 getting the beta build ahead of this year’s flagship. But this also means that OnePlus is interested in backing older flagships as well. Also, the builds themselves are buggy ones with a lot of essential features broken. For example, the NFC, WiFi, and even Bluetooth don’t work. That is why OnePlus cautioned the closed beta group that OTAs would be not very worthy.
Another big takeaway is that stable beta builds are expected to arrive next week while a public beta will be here by the end of September. If all goes well, OnePlus might have first dibs on Android Oreo. That would also add one more feather in the hat of OnePlus with the company defeating HTC and even Motorola which are some of the fastest to update their roms.
