Qualcomm new Snapdragon SoCs to bring dual cameras, AI and more to budget smartphones

Qualcomm is currently in process of developing three new Snapdragon chipsets to bring additional capabilities to budget smartphones. The company will be introducing Snapdragon 429, 439 and 632 mobile platforms in the second half of this year. The new SoCs offer faster performance, improved battery life, enhanced graphics and AI capabilities with dual camera support for low priced smartphones.

It is highly anticipated that Snapdragon 429 and 439 chipsets will replace Snapdragon 425 and 430 SoCs while Snapdragon 632 mobile platform is seen as a replacement for the existent Snapdragon 626 chipset. Qualcomm will be using FinFET architecture for the new SoCs which are said to be faster and more efficient than present day chipsets. The new Snapdragon 429 and 439 SoCs take advantage of the X6 LTE modem. Both these processors offer “fast downloads, smooth video streams, and near seamless web browsing.” said Qualcomm.

Snapdragon 429 mobile platform is capable of supporting a single 16MP camera or dual 8MP shooters. It supports display resolution of 720p and includes Adreno 504 GPU for 50% faster graphics rendering. On the other hand, Snapdragon 439 SoC with octa-core CPU supports 21MP single camera, or 8MP dual cameras just like Snapdragon 429 chipset. It supports displays with 1080p resolution and houses Adreno 505 GPU for 20% faster graphics rendering.

Moving to the 600-tier chipset segment, the new Snapdragon 632 SoC is equipped with Kryo 250 CPU and Adreno 506 GPU. The Snapdragon 632 mobile platform uses X9 LTE Modem for faster data speeds. It can support a 24MP single camera, or 13MP dual cameras with 4K video capabilities. Moreover, Snapdragon 632 Soc offers support for FHD displays with 1080p resolution.

All three upcoming chipsets offer useful capabilities for the budget smartphone users. With the introduction of these new SoCs, low-priced smartphone segment will definitely see an upsurge in the coming days.
