Yes, you read it right! Samsung is pushing the April security patch for one of its device, that too a budget device. It’s of much surprise as the update comes in one day ahead of the April month kicks-off. And, Google haven’t even published the detail of April 2018 SMR on Android Security Bulletin. Nevertheless, it’s confirmed the lucky device, Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) is receiving the very latest security patch update.
The OTA update carrying Baseband Version J330FXXU3ARC5, is hitting the Galaxy J3 (2017) units in Netherland and Luxembourg. It entitles the budget device as, not only the first Samsung device but also the first Android device to receive the April 2018 patch. Since, Google haven’t published the details of the patch, we’re not sure of what all security fixes does the patch bring to the table.
However, as it should be, usually Samsung security patch includes Google specific CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) and special fixes for Samsung software known as SVV (Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures). Hence, we should wait for the Samsung to release the detail of the April patch on Samung security Bulletin, in order to get the complete informations. We can expect both the tech-giants, Google and Samsung to update their respective bulletins incorporating the details of the April SMR in coming days.
That said, if you’re a Galaxy J3 (2017) owners in above mentioned regions. Head over to Settings》Software update section to grab the latest patch much before the Pixel devices. The J3 users in other regions can also check for the update as it can reach anytime from now on your region as well.
