Samsung Galaxy Note 8 receives October Security update in China and Hong Kong

Last week, Samsung started to roll out October Security updates with Galaxy A5 2016 and 2017 . Now, their star flagship Galaxy Note 8 has started receiving the update in China and Hong Kong having model numbers SM-N9508 and SM-N9500 respectively. The update did not hit any other market as of now. But, the users in other markets will soon receive the update as this patch brings fixes for lots of vulnerabilities.

This is merely the same update provided to the Galaxy A5 2016 and 2017 unlike Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus which had stability improvements for launcher and DeX mode. Thus, the update does not bring visual changes or enhancements in the Galaxy Note 8 except for the vulnerabilities fix. To be clear, this update patches 215 vulnerabilities found in the Android ecosystem, out of which six are exclusive to Samsung’s software.

We are almost at the end of October and it is strange that Samsung provided the update to their mid rangers first which were launched a long time ago. Clearly, they should have provided the update first to their recently launched Galaxy Note 8. Anyways as OTA updates are rolled out by phases, it might take time to reach your device. So, have patience and if you want to check manually, just head over to Software update in Settings and select Download updates manually.
